Search Engine Optimization Definition
Daily SEO is my personal place to share my experiences about Search Engine Optimization. I will be writing articles, tutorials, tools and news about SEO. My goal will be to help beginners, non-techies and clueless website owners optimize their sites. I will try to use a non-technical language, but will get into advanced details when needed.
Let’s start with the definition of Search Engine Optimization. Why reinvent the wheel? Here are two definitions of SEO from two authority internet dictionaries.

What is SEO?
Short for search engine optimization, the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a Web site by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user. It is common practice for Internet users to not click through pages and pages of search results, so where a site ranks in a search is essential for directing more traffic toward the site.
SEO helps to ensure that a site is accessible to a search engine and improves the chances that the site will be found by the search engine.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a set of methodologies aimed at improving the visibility of a website in search engine listings. The term (SEO: Search Engine Optimizer) also refers to an industry of consultants that carry out optimization projects on behalf of client sites.
History of SEO
SEO began in the mid-1990s, as the first search engines were cataloging the early Web. Many site owners quickly learned to appreciate the value of a new listing in a search engine, as they observed sharp spikes in traffic to their sites.
Site owners soon began submitting their site URLs to the engines on a regular basis, and began modifying their site to accommodate the needs of search engine spiders, the software programs sent out to explore the Web. Special features such as meta tags became a common feature of sites that sought out high-ranking listings in search engine result pages (the so-called "SERPs").
Consultant firms arose to serve the needs of these site owners, and attempted to develop an understanding of the search engines’ internal logic, or algorithms. The goal was to develop a set of practices for copywriting, site coding, and submissions that would ensure maximum exposure for a website.
This post is the start of our journey. If you stay around, you will be learning and/or improving your SEO skills. Search Engine Optimization is a very dynamic subject and changes daily. So my intention is while helping others, try to improve my skills and learn from others. So please feel free to post your comments, and share your experiences. Remember nobody is perfect, so please accept my apologies in advance for my mistakes.
